Constance - Make tea, not war: --God

I ordered my textbooks through Half.com after verifying the ISBN at the bookstore. Now I check the syllabus for my tax class, and see this: "Hoffman, Willis, Maloney, Raabe, West's Federal Taxation: Comprehensive volume (2009 Edition), West Publishing co. (St. Paul, 2008)". However, I bought the 2008 edition, and that was the edition in the bookstore!

That's not cool.

If the ISBN matches, then the book is virtually identical to the book that was in the store, even if the edition date specifies 2008/2009. Sometimes that happens when a book is published in December/January of a given year. ISBNs are like the social security number of a book.

I don't think that's the case here. The edition year is prominent on the cover, compare:

and actually, it appears that the ISBN didn't match anything in this case... I wrote down ISBN-10: 0324380542. I guess I'm going to have to buy it in the bookstore tomorrow or something.

Ah, I misunderstood what you were saying :-)

And yeah, if ISBN doesn't match, then they are different books. But ISBN-10 and ISBN-13 are the same, just for your reference. (the only difference is the check digit)
