Cat

So on Friday, our cat somehow got out of the house. He's been out for five days during which we would be looking for him, calling him, talking to neighbors. Yesterday we bought a trap to catch animals without hurting them, hoping it will catch our cat, because a few of our neighbors have seen him, but he wouldn't come out of the woods (there are a lot of empty lots here still) to our voice. But we didn't have to use it, because mom went out in the evening and saw him on the porch of another neighbor's house. So she called him, and he came! It seems that he just got lost, and had no clue which house was his. We were so relieved and happy. We thought he'd either ran away very far, because the first 3 days we haven't heard any word about him, or that someone had gotten him and taken him in for themselves.

Well, he was hungry!! Another thing we've discovered is that he had fleas on him :( So we washed him with a special shampoo. He seems so much smaller than he was just a few weeks ago when we washed him before. You can see all the bones when he's wet. Of course he has long fur, so you can't see it when he's dry, but you can feel it when you stroke him.

He was so happy to be home. It's really unusual for him to be so lovey-dovey. The first thing he did was lie down on the cold tile floor where the AC air was coming out. It's been really humid these past few days, and when it wasn't hot, it was raining and thundering. I would guess he'd been rained on 3 or more times. That's also a problem, because his fur is all matted, especially on his stomach and neck. It's pretty bad. I think we're going to have to shave him in spots.

Writer's Block: Destined for greatness

Do you believe that a higher power controls our fate or that we choose our own destinies?

A little bit of both. I believe that there is a plan for my life, something that I'm meant to do and am uniquely qualified to do, something that would bring me happiness. There is a reason why I'm here. But at the same time, it's not like a mandate; I can choose to go along with the plan or not to. It's not set in stone, if that makes sense...

wwwh.web-help-service.com spyware

I think I fell victim to a spyware/adware... Has anyone heard of wwwh.web-help-service.com ? Whenever I go a page like this:

http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=navclient&gfns1&q=search

it redirects me to

http://wwh.web-help-service.com/search?qr=search&sid=001Z_ckz5s82BIMubt&rg=G_5j&ri=g0Fs

But this only happens in Firefox, my main browser. It does not happen in IE. What gives? There's a page where you can "opt out" by accepting a cookie from them, which I really don't want to do, because this just doesn't look legitimate. Why did it hack my browser like that. And there's nothing I can do.

Frustrating. If you have any suggestions, please let me know.

Update: posted some pictures from the site. The first is "About this page" link on the bottom of the search results page. The other is what appears when you click "opt out".

Update 2: This even happens if I go to Safe Mode in Firefox! What does this mean? Their site claims they haven't installed anything on my computer - yeah right...

Update 3: WTF! It seems to be my ISP's doing! What, just what? Okay then. I'll accept that freaking cookie.

Writer's Block: Another sleepless night

Do you suffer from occasional or frequent insomnia? Do you have any special tricks or remedies? How does it impact your life?

Nope, I don't generally have insomnia. I can sometimes stay up a long time if I get really excited about a book or a game, or I may be awaken by the kitty in the middle of night and then fail to fall asleep again, but these are rare.

However I've recently heard a good trick that I think I'd want to apply if I get insomnia... A teacher recommended googling U.S. Tax Treaties, "If that doesn't put you to sleep, nothing will."

It is snowing

It is snowing right now! I'm so excited. I haven't seen snow in two years. I heard the weather forecasts, but I didn't know I'd be excited to see this :D

I was hoping to take part in the Mardi Gras parade today, but it might be canceled due to the weather. We'll see.

Edit: It's snowing pretty hard. Not just like tiny snowflakes. Very pretty. The people living here haven't seen snow since 1996, and so they are like standing by the windows, taking pictures and videos... I think I'll go do that too.

Writer's Block: Superbowl madness or sadness?

If you're in the U.S., will you watch all or part of the Superbowl? Do you have a favorite team? If you're not American, what do you think about Superbowl Sunday?

Never watched "football" before. And the quotes are intentional because this is not what I'm used to calling football ;) But I watched it today, for a few reasons. People just talked about the Superbowl and who is likely to win, and who they want to win, and the excitement kinda caught me too. They also mentioned that they were excited about Superbowl commercials. I've heard of this phenomenon before, that during Superbowl the companies just go all out with their commercials, make creative ones. But since I never watched "football", I never saw the commercials either. So surprisingly all this went against my expectations. I actually enjoyed the game quite a bit more than I thought I would, and I thought the commercials weren't all that great. Some of those commercials were kinda odd, making you think it was going to be about something other than it turned out to be in the end... The Coca Cola commercial was one I liked, though. I was kind of hoping to see the Tim Tebow's commercial, but I missed it. Looks like another let down: what all the fuss was about?

Anyway, back to the topic at hand, the actual game... Around here the Alabamians were mostly all for the New Orleans team, although the odds were more in favor of Indianapolis. Someone said, "It would take a miracle for the Saints to win" to which the answer was, "Well, saints do that kind of thing". (Pun intentional as far as could tell!) Since I've just moved from Indiana a year ago, and New Orleans is not in Alabama, I wasn't sure which team I should be cheering for, but I was leaning more towards the one deemed less likely to win - i.e. New Orleans Saints. I lost track of time, and only tuned in in the second quarter, where it seems that the game picked up for New Orleans! Good timing on my part I guess. (The score was 10-0 with Indianapolis in the lead by the end of first quarter. 10-6 in the second quarter, I think.) That interception and touchdown in the fourth quarter was awesome. It was a kind of close game most of the time in terms of points, so I'm guessing the teams were pretty well-matched. Still the Saints have managed to win by a sizable margin in the end: 31-17. It was interesting to watch, as I said before. Even though I don't know any rules yet, I could kinda sorta follow it.

Writer's Block: Animal magnetism

What animal best represents your inner spirit? If you had to wake up as an animal, which one would you choose, and why? Are your two answers the same? Why or why not?

A bit weird question, but I wanted to answer anyway... I really like dragonflies; that's the sort of animal I could imagine myself as. They are just so graceful; they fly fast or hover and are usually found near the water. I wouldn't want to be an animal, but that's what I could associate with.
